The city of Fayetteville is known for being bike-friendly with on-street cycle paths, numerous trail networks, and cycling events. This summer season is a great time for residents at our student apartments in Fayetteville, AR to get involved with cycling as both a recreational activity and a green mode of transportation.
Get out in nature, move your body, and discover the Fayetteville area this year at these upcoming events:
On August 11th, Fayetteville Parks & Recreation will host The Kessler Mountain Jam. This event is part of the Arkansas Mountain Bike Championship Series (AMBCS) cross-country race, but also includes other types of races for cyclists with varying abilities. After the riders finish there is an awards party with live music, food, and drinks. The location of the event is in Kessler Mountain Regional Park, just a 15 minute drive from our student apartments at The Academy at Frisco. If you're sticking around campus for the summer and want to get involved, sign up as a cyclist or volunteer.
This 30 mile bike ride follows the Razorback Greenway. The next Square 2 Square Bicycle Ride is September 7th. Although the course is 30 miles, participants can start at any point. The event includes three stops with refreshments, bike repair services, and entertainment. After the event you can enjoy live music, food and drinks, and farmers market vendors.
If racing doesn't sound appealing to you, Fayetteville offers another type of group cycle activities. Slow Roll is a recurring event for cyclists with any skill level. The goal of these events is to relax and enjoy group bike rides while stopping at fun, local spots. Fayetteville has organized four Slow Ride events so far and they are growing in popularity as there are no special requirements for riders. Even if you don't have a bike you can participate in these events with VeoRide, the bike-share program that allows anyone in Fayetteville to pick up a bike, ride it to their destination, and leave it for another rider. If you have an account with VeoRide you can participate in Slow Roll events free of charge. Check out Bike Fayetteville's Facebook Page to find out more.
