Embark on a Fall Getaway to Ozark National Forest

Fall is a magical time in the Ozarks. The weather is crisp, the fall foliage is bright, and the air is fresh. This is the perfect time of year for residents at the Academy at Frisco to get away and experience the rugged beauty of the Ozark National Forest. The Ozark National Forest is only a 40-minute drive from our apartments in Fayetteville, which means you can plan a day trip or a full weekend getaway.

About Ozark National Forest

The Ozark National Forest spans nearly 1.2 million acres of land in Arkansas. The Lake Wedington Recreation Area is one of the closest portions of the National Forest to Fayetteville, and it has a history unique enough to land in on the National Register of Historic Places. The area is notable because it was built and developed as a Depression-era Works Progress Administration (WPA) project.

Sites You Can't Miss

Here are three more notable places to explore in the Ozark National Forest.

Blanchard Spring

Blanchard Spring is a beautifully peaceful spot where you can take in the fall colors and breathe in nature. Enjoy the nearby hiking trails, or simply admire the stunning waterfalls. Head here for more information and directions.

Pam's Grotto Falls

Located near Haw's Creek Campground, Pam's Grotto features a beautiful waterfall tucked between towering bluffs.

Lost Valley

The Lost Valley, located in the Buffalo National River Area, is a stunning spot to visit in any season, but especially fall. You'll see caves, waterfalls, bluffs, and more. The 2.2 mile Lost Valley Trail is one of the most popular trails in the area for good reason.

Cozy Cabin Getaways

There are several cozy cabins available for rent on Airbnb, like this riverside retreat close to Lost Valley, or this rustic forest getaway deep in the heart of the forest.
